CLIENT SPOTLIGHT - GF PET

GF Pet is a Montreal-based canine apparel company that brings to life head-to-tail functionality that complements the unique style and personality of every pet. 

I have been super privileged to create their lifestyle winter images for the past 4 years.

The goal of each shoot is to get images that inspire desire: “My dog is staying warm, dry and comfortable and gosh he looks amazing!”

We want to create images that convey a feeling of peace of mind for the owner, knowing her pet is happier, healthier during the cold winter months but also looking like a rockstar on his instagram feed.

We aim for a mix of awe-inspiring hero images that are more posed so we can get a good view of the products but also lots of crazy fun action shots in the snow. The canine activewear is comfortable and practical so it’s important to show the pups in real life situations in the final images. Dogs doing what they do best, being dogs.

The photoshoot takes place over one day with multiple dogs and many wardrobe changes for each one. The shoot has to take place as the samples come in and the final images need to be delivered in time to design the catalog and signage and have them printed before the big pet shows start to happen. We have to be crazy efficient and work on a condensed timeline. Everything is always so well thought out and planned that it never feels rushed or stressed.  

GF Pet’s team always finds a lovely bunch of insta-famous dogs to model and they do an amazing job coordinating the whole day. 

To minimize movement and save time we always shoot in a single location. What a great challenge it is to get creative and get lots of variety from that one location. We work off of a moodboard so very team member is aligned in terms of visuals and feelings we need to create. In 2020 me and Head designer Christine were a 2 women team (with the dog owners of course) and we got shit done in record time. 

Fun fact #1: 2020 was the only time we’ve had to postpone due to weather as it was pouring rain the original day the shoot was planned. We were lucky as our rescheduled date was a perfect winter day.

Fun fact #2: In 2018 the photoshoot was during a snowstorm, and 2019 on a day that had to be one of the coldest days of that year.
